Maybe Hans would like Thursdays email to us all all over again, Remember this:

“Hi all,

Comp No. 5 is definitely on this Saturday. Forecast is for offshore winds all day with 4 ft plus of swell.

Swell could be a bit smaller than forecast as I looked at Sussex today and it had dropped below 4ft.
Comp to start at 7:30 am . Juniors first in the water.”

I ran into The Captain outside Engadine pub 6 o clock Friday night. He was just getting back from Garie and I’d have to say he was frothing a little bit. “Its going off from the point to the beach. Tomorrows going to be epic.”

Great just what an old bloke want to hear.

When I got there Saturday morning all I could think about was what the sherrif out of Jaws the movie said “we gotta get a bigger boat” - I wanted a bigger board and plenty of them as some of the guys would come to attest to.

If you arrived when there was a lull you thought this looks alright Im going to have a good day. Then the sets start rolling round the north point and this being my story im calling them 8 – 10 foot and then you see Ryan Pike and Marty Williams walking back with snapped boards and looking for back up boards my old footy injury starts playing up and I think darn I wont be able to get out there.

The comp was called off . No way could you run 20 minute heats in that size and as for juniors we would have lost the whole division. The paddle out if you were lucky took 20 minutes All grand masters decided discression was the better part of valour and decided to watch and think in my day……I would’ve could’ve should’ve …….

Those who didn’t grab their big guns to go hunting these big lefts grabbed their cameras to head up the beach to watch this event.

Now the guys I saw on Saturday with the big kahunas were the Pike brothers Ryan and JJ Mitch turned up for the afternoon session. Marty Williams, Captain Couse , The Mills brothers Kyle and Andrew, Marc “ozza” Oriel, Brett "Danga" Daintry, Troy “Woodrow” Woods , Dennis “Rawy” Wright, Mark “Ronnie” Robertson . Gareth “Garp” Malys ( afternoon session), Brad “Bumhead” Cox. Greg Mckee, Mat Brander. Shaun Cooper. Sean Dorahy, Ryan Willmott. Sean Warren. Dan Hayllar ring ins Phil MacDonald and Kirk Flintoff.

Best destroyers on the day – 2 broken boards each for Ryan Pike and Marty Williams
With Marty winning on count back with a broken fin on the third board.

Aplogies to those I missed with both camera and naming.

It was just one of those days you just had to be there and see the Garie boys have a go. The pictures do do it some justice

See you all next comp -- Shags
