Tag Team Challenge Cup

Mark Robo in the Green Room last comp.

On Saturday the 6th of March we were greeted with clean, fun 2ft waves for the inaugural tag team challenge cup. 28 surfers turned up, a good mix of new & old faces including two new junior members; Liam Forsythe & Blake Fischer (welcome guys). Surfers were put into four evenly matched teams & rivalries were quickly established as the team captains & their members discussed strategies & plotted to bring down their opponents.
The first heat saw Scotty’s team narrowly defeat Jelly’s, all the guys surfed well & completed all their waves within the 90 minute time allotment. Bonus points were also awarded for finishing within the time limit, 4 points for first finished & 2 points for second also as a part of clean up Australia day extra points could be earned as a reward for collecting bags of rubbish. The second heat was a close affair too with team Couse defeating team Marzy, as it went down to the wire both captains were screaming instructions & encouragement to their last surfers & talking up waves as a concerted effort to influence the judges, which despite being very entertaining had no effect on the outcome.
For the final all four teams were back in the water with the total result to be calculated from each team’s heat & final scores. The waves improved as the tide began to push in a few bigger sets.
The final was once again a close one with the lead regularly changing, Captain Couse & captain Jelly could sense the closeness & madly began filling rubbish bags to give their team every chance, but in the end it was team Marzy who held the cup aloft with a great team effort highlighted by the surfing of Captain Marzy who was ripping all day. Other standouts throughout the day were Scotty Roots, Mitch Pike, (good to see him back) Marshall, Paul Ryan, Nolsy, & all the grommets who surfed showing that it’s going to be a great year for the young blokes.
Many thanks to all the parents & members for hanging around all day & assisting with the set up & pack up. Well done to all who helped with clean up Australia Day the beach looks great after we collected around 20 bag of rubbish.
Next comp is on March 27, when revert back to our regular points score format. It’s still not too late to join, so let your mates know.

See you all at the next comp
